Early College High School Orientation
Which ECHS Pathway Applies to You?
Early College High School students may enter UTEP through an Accelerated or Traditional pathway. Review the descriptions below to understand which orientation information applies to you.
PATHWAY 1
ACCELERATED ECHS
You are an Accelerated ECHS student if:
- You are currently enrolled in high school and have not yet graduated.
- You completed your associate degree at EPCC before your high school graduation.
- You plan to begin or continue attending UTEP while finishing your remaining high school requirements.
Orientation: Follow the Accelerated ECHS orientation instructions provided by the ECHS Academic Success Center.
PATHWAY 2
TRADITIONAL ECHS
You are a Traditional ECHS student if:
- You attended EPCC while enrolled in high school.
- You earned your associate degree when you graduated from high school, or you did not complete the associate degree.
- You plan to begin attending UTEP after high school graduation.
Orientation: Register for Freshman Student Orientation or contact ECHS staff about College Ready Student Orientation.
WHY TRADITIONAL ECHS STUDENTS ATTEND FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
College courses completed before high school graduation are considered dual credit. Even if you earned an associate degree, you enter UTEP as a first-time freshman because the college credit was earned while you were still in high school.
Transfer Student Orientation is for students who graduated from high school and then completed college coursework before transferring to UTEP.
WHY THE DIFFERENCE MATTERS
Your pathway helps UTEP determine the correct admission, advising, and orientation process. Both groups may have college credit from EPCC, but the key difference is when you begin attending UTEP in relation to your high school graduation.
